Irish, Celtic, contemporary and unique are some words that could be used to describe Ruairi O Neill and his work. Ruairi O Neill is the designer and maker of hand made silver jewellery. Constantly swimming against the tide has earned him the reputation as a leader rather than a follower of fashion.

Enjoy!

June 11 2008,

I have extended my creative touch to baking and coffee making. If in Clifden, while visiting the most beautiful landscape on earth that is Connemara, you should drop into my new Café Gallery Ruairí O Neill and try some of the new creations.

As one of over two hundred entrants in the Index 100 competition, a competition to select the best new product for 2005 I was joint second and the only jeweller to receive a commendation at Showcase. The piece selected was the Oisri Necklace.

The Tánaiste Mary Harney presenting me with a special commendation for best new product at the opening of Showcase 2005.

My introduction to Jewellery goes back to 1985. I was in living in Dublin at the time. A friend of mine told me of a jewellery course that was happening down in the County of Kilkenny by the River Nore. Having grown up in the countryside, it sounded very appealing. In an adapted mill house on the River Nore, for six months, I learned some of the various techniques in jewellery and silversmithing. Over the years I have been to various seminars, met with other jewellers, learned new techniques and the rest is history (Don’t you just love the short profiles!).

I could list where I have exhibited, but what good is that to you, it is past and you have missed the show!

The best you can do at this stage, is to visit my workshop at Café Gallery Ruairí O Neill, there you will be able to watch a piece been made and you can see all the work that is not presently available to buy online.
